Last week Minister of Canadian Heritage and Status of Women, Beverley Oda announced that twelve Status of Women Canada offices will be closing.
Women across Canada are responding to the Harper government's announcement that it will close many of the Status of Women's regional offices. Other women and women's groups are putting up a call to others to protest this move. Some women out of Halifax have started a web site as a protest and to galvanize support across Canada. More information is also available at statusreport
Of course R.E.A.L., who feel excluded from the Status of Women, applauded the move by Oda. R.E.A.L. had long been lobbying government to abolish the Status of Women have found a willing listener in Stephen Harper.
